Educational System of Malaysia


THE MALAYSIA
Malaysia it was located on the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia. The Sabah and Sarawak on the east island of Borneo it also includes in the nation of Malaysia. The official language that being use of Malaysia is known as “Bahasa Malaysia”, it is a standardized form of the Malay language. In Sarawak, the “Iban” is the main tribal language while the “Dusunic” language is spoken by the natives in Sabah. The “English” language is remains an active second language in many areas of Malaysian society. In Malaysia, we can find also the oldest and most honorable university which is the “Universiti of Malaya” this university it was also ranked at the 151st place in the world by the QS World University Rankings in 2014. The Universiti of Malaya is located at Kuala Lumpur since 1949.















MALAYSIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

        The children in Malaysia is begun to enter in the school at the early age of four years old in the pre-school level. The pre-school level is optional in Malaysia. In the year of 2015, the Malaysian governments provide a free education on the primary levels and secondary levels. All Malaysian children between the ages of 7 years old to 12 years old must sent to the school to pursue the six (6) years in the primary levels. In the age of 13 years old to 17 years old must also sent to school in order to pursue the five (5) years in the secondary levels. Their medium of instruction for the pre-school to secondary level is the “Bahasa Melayu”. For Mathematics and Science subject they didn’t use only the Bahasa Melayu language as their medium of instruction but it also the English language. While in the Tertiary level, they use English Language as their medium of instruction by that all the students are compulsory to use English.
        The Malaysian educational system it consist of Pre-school, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Pre-university Education and Higher Education. Their education system is supervised by the Ministry of Malaysia (Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia) for the Pre-school to Secondary Education. In Tertiary Education it was supervised by Ministry of Higher Education (Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi). The school year in Malaysia starts in January and it ends to November. The minimum number of schooling days per year is 190.

Pre-school



In this level of their education, the children ranging from four (4) to six (6) years old are not compulsory in Malaysia to be sent in Pre-school. It is an optional for them if they sent their children in pre-school or not. The Malaysian Ministry of Education had set a goal for all the pre-school, it just to nurture their students in all aspects of development in order to master the basic skill as a preparation to enter the primary school.

Primary Education



        In the primary education, the Malaysian children that are ranging their age of six (6) to eleven (11) years old will takes a six years in primary education. This level is free and it is compulsory to them to go to school. In this level the pupils will be exposed in to the different subjects such as science, physical education, Islamic and moral education. After the six (6) years in studying in primary education, the pupils will be having a Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR). This Assessment it will test the Mastery of comprehension, writhing and oral for Malay and English, Mastery of mathematics skills, Mastery of science concepts.

Secondary Education


        After the Malaysian learners undergo the UPSR the students have an opportunity to study in the secondary education. In this level of Secondary Education, the student age are ranging of  twelve (12) to sixteen (16) years old and they will take five (5) years in secondary education. This level also is the same of primary education which it is free and it is compulsory to them to go to school. Secondary education is divided into two stages, the Lower Secondary Education (Menengah Rendah) and Upper Secondary Education (Menengah Atas). The Lower Secondary Education it is from 1 to form 3. This year it is called the “Remove Class” and it also involves an intensive language studies in order for the Malaysian students will be prepared for their national language. The students will study a minimum of eight subjects it includes the Bahasa Melayu, english, science, history, geography and mathematics. Elective subjects that includes Islamic studies, moral education, life skills, European language and mother tongue. The Upper Secondary Education it is form 4 to 5. This level of secondary the students will attend one of these three types of school which is the Academic (arts or sciences stream), Technical and Vocational (technical, vocational or skills training stream), Religious. These two types of secondary education are both will end with a standardized test. They have two different final of test that it also depends on what the students were the last two years in the technical/academic track or in the vocational track.

Pre-university Education

        This level of education the students are in the age of seventeen (17) years. Malaysian students are being prepared for the Higher Education level. The students entry to pre-universtity studies is based on the result of the SPM and it also known as Six form. At the end of the Sixth-Form cycle, The students will sit for the “Sijil Tinggi Malaysia” (STPM), students that who will pass at least one (1) of the subject they will be awarded a certificate with subjects and grades recorded on it.

Higher Education


        The higher education which those students are a secondary school certificate holders/ SPM from 17 years. This level is offering a lots of Bachelor’s degree programmed the range of the students in this level is nineteen (19) to twenty (20) years old for the three (3) to five (5) years. Higher Education is under of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) “Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi".


COMPARISON BETWEEN MALAYSIAN AND PHILIPPINES EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM






        The Malaysian Educational System is the same to the Philippines, which the Malaysia has a Pre-school, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Higher Education and even the Vocational courses. In our Philippine Educational System was supervised by the Department of Education (DepEd) for the level of the Pre-school, Primary and Secondary. For the tertiary level it is supervised by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). And for the vocational courses it was supervised by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The DepEd is same with the “Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia” both of this are supervising the Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education. The Malaysia and Philippines are the same who offered vocational courses to all the students. In the Higher Education, both Malaysia and Philippines are same that they offer a Batchelor’s Degree. However, there are some differences of Malaysia and Philippines in Education. The pre-school of Malaysia it is not a compulsory that all the children it must sent in pre-school, while in the Philippines all of the children must sent in the pre-school or kindergarten in order to enter to the primary education. The Malaysia and Philippines has some difference in educational system but both of these countries really did their best in order to help their nation by starting to reduce the number of illiteracy and to provide a good learning’s to the students. They tried their best to reach their goals in order to produce excellent learners by providing a best education to all the students.
